This paper presents a literature review, which contains the most important aspects of neuropathies associated to intramedullary and extramedullary neoplasiae in dogs, including their pathophysiology. For small animals veterinarians it is difficult to find a tool that summarizes clearly and concisely the topics addressed in this review. As a matter of fact, knowing the pathophysiology of intramedullary and extramedullary tumors, and diagnosing these conditions are quite complicated tasks and demand many years of experience. Moreover, recent advances in diagnosis techniques, and new protocols proposed for treatment are not always known by everybody in the field, so addressing this issue may help fill knowledge gaps of veterinarians who see patients with neuropathy on a daily basis and rule out the possibility of this having an infectious, degenerative, traumatic or other kind of origin.
