El sistema cardiovascular es importante para la dinámica fisiológica de los procesos bioquímicos como los realizados a nivel pulmonar. Los cambios patológicos asociados ala presión arterial han sido motivo de estudio e investigación en diferentes especies animales incluyendo los humanos. En muchos casos se han manipulado biomodelos para obtener información relevante respecto a los mecanismos fisiopatológicos y moleculares que conllevan al desarrollo de estados hipertensivos, considerando los grupos celulares que participan de estos eventos. El presente documento hace una revisión sobre los posibles mecanismos involucrados en los cambios de la presión arterial (estados hipertensivos) y sus valores de referencia considerando diversas especies animales.
