This article seeks to analyze the effectiveness of the social security agreement signed between Colombia and Spain, by reviewing the legal protection schemes found in both countries, in order to establish the level of guarantee of the universal right to social security of the migrant population. For this purpose, the qualitative research method was used, through the analysis of the regulations and jurisprudence of both countries. This led to establish in the results that the excessive delays in the recognition of economic benefits by Colombia impede the achievement of the objectives of the agreement, associated to the little information available to the Spanish migrant or the Colombian citizen who contributed in Spain, which could be affecting the access to the right to an old age pension.
