All articles or reviews submitted for peer review in Revista Nacional de Odontología must be unpublished, original, and proprietary. We ask authors to refrain from submitting works that have already been partially or fully published elsewhere—except for online working papers—or translations into other languages. If evidence of similar or identical documents already published is detected, the work will be automatically rejected.
In accordance with the academic quality requirements for the indexing of Colombian journals (National Bibliographic Index – Publindex), Revista Nacional de Odontología primarily seeks to publish the following types of articles:
Scientific and Technological Research Article
A document that presents, in detail, the original results of completed research projects.Reflection Article Derived from Research
A document that presents the results of completed and published research in other academic journals from the analytical, interpretive, or critical perspective of the author, on a specific topic, using original sources.
Review Article
A document resulting from completed research that analyzes, systematizes, or integrates the results of published research on a field in science or technology to account for advances and development trends. It is characterized by a careful bibliographic review of at least 50 references.
Reviews
Revista Nacional de Odontología will accept the submission of critical reviews of monographs, articles, research, and scientific dissemination books in education that may be of interest to the journal's readers.
Languages
Revista Nacional de Odontología will publish complete articles originally written in Spanish, English, or Portuguese.
Article Structure
The basic structure of an article includes the following: title, abstract, keywords, body of the text (which may vary depending on the type of article and the author's intention), and a list of references. The details an author must consider when preparing their article for Revista Nacional de Odontología are more extensively described in a template developed for this purpose.Purpose and Coherence
All articles submitted to Revista Nacional de Odontología are expected to have an explicit purpose and aim to contribute something of interest to the journal's readership. Additionally, beyond the possible structure the author chooses to organize the content of their article (review or essay), the texts should follow a coherent scheme that includes three essential elements: introduction, articulated development of the topic, and conclusion.Length
It is suggested that articles be between six thousand (6000) and eight thousand (8000) words in length. Critical reviews should not exceed fifteen hundred (1500) words.Authors participating in the journal are expected to present original texts of their own creation, derived from rigorous research processes, not previously published, and properly use bibliographic sources and any other material protected by copyright. The texts must also be carefully written, considering the formatting and citation requirements that correspond to the journal's style.
Revista Nacional de Odontología reviewers must have at least a master's degree and published written work in the area they are invited to evaluate.
Confidentiality
As the peer review will be conducted through a "double-blind" system to ensure greater independence of the parties (neither the authors nor the reviewers will have access to each other's identity, academic profile, or origin), that information will only be handled by the journal's staff and will not be disclosed to third parties. The documentation for each article will be kept for indexing or peer review verification purposes.Peer Review System
All articles submitted to the journal for its editions will undergo a "double-blind" peer review process conducted with the help of expert peers in each subject. Peer participation is voluntary and is expected to be seen as an academic reciprocity agreement, contributing constructively to strengthening (and validating) the research and contributions of other colleagues within the discipline. In the case of reviews, which are dissemination documents, they may be reviewed by the editor or other members of the journal's editorial team. Their publication will be decided based on thematic and textual coherence, relevance to the field, or the importance or timeliness of the discussion it proposes.Reviewers
Revista Nacional de Odontología reviewers are expected to provide a thorough and constructive reading of each article they agree to review, not only issuing a recommendation for approval or rejection to the editor but also offering feedback to help authors improve their texts or reflect on the scope, possibilities, or shortcomings of their manuscript. Reviewers must also consider that the texts entrusted to them by the editor are unpublished, and any improper or unauthorized use of the information contained therein would constitute a serious ethical breach. Additionally, the responsibility of reviewing a manuscript, once accepted, cannot be transferred to third parties, especially without prior justification and consultation with the editor. Finally, any conflict of interest the reviewer identifies after receiving a manuscript that could potentially compromise their independence in forming a judgment must be reported.Articles submitted for peer review in Revista Nacional de Odontología cannot be under review by other journals and must not be submitted simultaneously to other review processes.
The journal and its editorial team will promote, through their policies and actions, ethics in research processes, appropriate use of copyright-protected content, and the quality of the work they publish, ensuring that all collaborators interact under principles of academic integrity.
Notification of Cases
If there is evidence of ethical issues in the research presented by the works published by the journal, doubts about their scientific rigor, suspicion of data falsification or improper manipulation, undisclosed conflicts of interest, identification of prior publications ("repackaging"), authorship problems, or plagiarism, we kindly request immediate contact with the journal editor to investigate the case and take appropriate action. Notifications of ethical issues will be handled with complete confidentiality, protecting the identity of the person who detected the problem, if requested.Retractions, Corrections, and Conflict Resolution
The journal follows the guidelines and procedures of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) for addressing inappropriate conduct in academic publishing. Similarly, retractions or corrections will be made to published articles whose content presents errors affecting their scientific quality or the proper recognition of their authors, whether due to unintentional mistakes in the research and publication process or serious ethical issues such as plagiarism, falsification, manipulation of data, among others.The journal publishes its content under open access, with no embargo period. All published works are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), and their use must comply with the licensing conditions.
Ediciones UCC will ensure the digital preservation of the content it publishes so that authors can always retrieve their articles over time and maintain access to the journal's history and evolution.
Content Use and Self-Archiving
Authors may self-archive their work in institutional repositories, in the final version (or publisher version) in which the article was published, provided that the bibliographic details of the original publication are included, thus giving credit to the journal. Additionally, when self-archiving a published article, authors are encouraged to include a link to the article via its DOI, so it can be accessed through the journal's official website. Authors taking an active role in disseminating their published work among colleagues, undergraduate and graduate students, and the broader academic community is key to making a more effective contribution to the field or generating greater impact in research and academic training processes.Publication Costs
There is no cost to authors for submitting articles or for the editing process if their articles are approved, as the journal is fully funded by Ediciones UCC.Submissions
Article proposals must be submitted in Word format, following the journal's suggested template and exclusively through the OJS platform. Along with the article, each author must submit a fully completed author form as well as an originality and ethical commitment letter. The original file and its attachments must be submitted through the OJS system. Reviews will also be accepted only through this platform and in the required template.
