Introduction: Dental ceramics are considered the best materials for the preparation of veneers and pros-
thetic crowns in anterior and posterior teeth. In addition to reproducing the color of the teeth with greater
fidelity, they present aesthetic and biomechanical characteristics similar to dental tissues. The clinical stage
of selecting the color of the patient’s teeth - for the subsequent fabrication of the prosthesis by the dental
technician - determines the aesthetic result of ceramic prosthetic crowns.
Objective: To evaluate the fidelity of the color of different feldspathic ceramics: Porcelain EX-3 (Noritake,
Japan), StarLight (Dentsply, Brazil) and HeramCeram (Heraeus, Germany) with their respective color scales:
Shade Guide (Noritake, Japan), Vita Classical (Vita, Germany) and Pala (Heraeus, Germany).
Methodology: We made ceramic veneers that reproduced the aesthetic aspects (shape, shade, chroma
and value). The veneers were standardized at the time of stratification and application of ceramics in the
laboratory.
Results: The veneers elaborated after determining the color were compared with the original scale of the
manufacturer of each ceramic dental brand. They presented great differences in the esthetic aspects eva-
luated. This confirms the importance of having knowledge of the ceramics and the type of scale that will be
used.
Conclusion: The lack of knowledge when selecting the color of the dental ceramic affects the registration
and mapping of the color of the teeth that the oral surgeon will rehabilitate. This can cause failures in the
transmission of information to the prosthesis laboratory.
