Historical construction of the concept of poverty a critical review from a multidimensional perspective
This article constitutes a documentary, historical, conceptual, and investigative review that deepens the understanding of the concept of poverty through a qualitative approach, a narrative-hermeneutic method, and an interpretive-constructivist paradigm. It takes as its starting point the written work of different thinkers from ancient times and the development of the concept to the present. Illustrating a transformation in meaning throughout history, from a perspective focused exclusively on monetary deprivation to broader approaches that include social, cultural, and well-being dimensions, the article interprets the main theoretical approaches, from the classical view based on the scarcity of resources to multidimensional perspectives such as the essential dimensions of being, such as well-being, dignity, and development opportunities. The review allows us to conclude that poverty is a dynamic and complex phenomenon that transcends lack of income, highlighting its multidimensional nature and requiring comprehensive approaches for its proper understanding and mitigation.
