La economía social y solidaria en Iberoamérica viene avanzando con propuestas teóricas diversas y novedosas, sustentadas con experiencias que dan cuenta de la importancia de este campo como alternativa de solidaridad económica. Ésta economía, enfrenta los desafíos del contexto social y económico, como es el aumento de la pobreza y las desigualdades que padecen muchos países de la región. La deficiencia de políticas económicas que no logran dar respuestas satisfactorias a la hora de generar oportunidades reales que potencien capacidades territoriales, ha conllevado a un crecimiento desigual que se expresa en lugares adversos y contradictorios, a los cuales Omar Tobio describe y denomina territorios de incertidumbre. Es así, como problemas de índole internacional tales como el aumento de la inmigración, plantean hoy al campo de la economía social y solidaria retos y oportunidades.
