The following article, which is a conference paper, was presented at the iv National Colloquium on the History of Colombian Literature, organized by the Universidad de Antioquia – Medellín in May 2011. The paper treats recent detective novels in Colombian literature; particularly, it studies the novel El Eskimal y la Mariposa, by writer Nahum Montt from Santander. In this paper we undertake a first approach to a hypothesis that states that the spaces and characters of the novel are configured in a gloomy manner. With this, we pretend to show that this novel belongs to the “noir”genre through both its contents and the way in which it configures said elements.
