La sociedad contemporánea está atravesada por las necesidades del mercado globalizado. Este fenómeno, cuyo eje principal son los procesos económicos abanderados por un crecimiento acelerado e ilimitado de empresas multinacionales, propiciado por la libre circulación de capitales, se orienta a la creación de una economía de mercado mundial, en la que los intereses económicos de los poseedores del capital no cuentan con intereses de sectores menos favorecidos. La meta de un crecimiento económico desaforado produjo una implantación definitiva de la sociedad de consumo, resaltando al máximo principios de competitividad e individualismo extremos.
