Caracterização dos estágios de maturação esquelética e a maturação sexual nas crianças entre 8-13 anos

Introdução: o objetivo desta pesquisa foi estudar as caracterís-ticas dos estágios de maturação sexual e esquelética em um grupo de crianças em Medellín (Colômbia). Métodos: estudo descritivo longitudi-nal prospectivo. Observaram-se 33 pacientes, 18 homens e 15 mulheres, entre 8 e 13 anos; saudáveis, avaliados com parâmetros de maturação esquelética, segundo Hägg e Taranger; de maturação sexual, segundo Tanner, e medidas antropométricas de tamanho e de peso. Realizaram-se medições a cada seis meses durante trinta meses. Resultados: Encontra-ram-se associações estatisticamente significativas entre a maturação es-quelética e a sexual, com a idade, o peso e o tamanho; dimorfismo sexual com respeito à idade de iniciação da puberdade. Os aumentos de taman-ho e de peso do periodo imediatamente anterior ao início da puberdade foram iguais ou maiores aos registrados em algumas etapas do periodo puberal avaliado. Conclusões: o desenvolvimento esquelético, representa-do pelos aumentos no tamanho e no peso, no periodo pré-puberal, é se-melhante aos do periodo puberal avaliado. Estas observações sustentam a pertinência de instaurar a terapia ortopédica em um periodo anterior ao puberal. No entanto, dadas as características da amostra, recomenda-se validar estes resultados com uma amostra mais representativa.
